Dear English Teacher,
thanks for your interest in a working for MovingOn Courses on one of our
intensive English courses in Cork, Ireland or Belfast Northern Ireland
or Spain.
For weekend courses in Spain please scroll down.
Please send a mail, subject " homestay belfast 2011" to request information for courses in Belfast.
The
summer course involves up to 50 students and 15 teachers but the rest
of the year is only Sonia, Gavin and another teacher in the house
The Belfast courses involve living with us in a 5-bedroom
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We have been offering different intensive English courses for over 12 years.
Weekends in casas rurales, normally near Madrid.
Week long courses (or puentes etc) in Javea, Alicante.
Summer courses in Cork, Ireland
Homestay in Belfast Ireland
The idea is to provide a more interesting and more entertaining course that is more enjoyable for the students AND the teachers.
In short, 12+hours of English per day with an average of 2 students per
teacher. Shared accommodation (individual or twin rooms). Classes,
meals, afternoon trip and evening conversation with students.
The following information applies to our general weekends open to the general public.
Basically, we wish to provide a weekend in a casa rural with 100% English.
You need to be sociable and remember that you need to help and correct the students at all times.
Please see the website so that you know the information that the students have read.
As you can see we only have classes in the morning, an afternoon trip on Saturday and the rest of the time is socialising.
Number of students
There are normally about 7 students that are split up according to their
levels for the classes. There are normally 3 groups. The rest of the
time all the students and teachers are together.
Who are the students?
Our prices are the cheapest in Spain and incredibly cheap compared to
Vaughan Systems/Pueblo Ingles. This means most students pay out of their
own pocket. They are generally 25+ and very enthusiastic about talking
and do not want grammar classes.
Classes
You teach a different group for each class.
Students come to practice conversation and do not expect any grammar
etc. We will let you know the expected levels of the students and we
require you to bring the material you plan to use. We prefer this to be
listening and conversation activities. Please plan to give each of your 3
groups 15 mins homework. We have additional material as a back up.
Meals
Normally we have someone to prepare meals, other times we take students to a restaurant.
Location
We do not have our own centre near Madrid so we have to rent a Casa
rural. Generally they are located in Avila, Segovia or Cuenca and at no
more than 2 hours from Madrid. For “puentes” and longer courses we
usually run the courses in Javea where we are now based.
The afternoon trip
This will inevitably involve walking either in a village or in the
country. Before we return to the accommodation we visit a bar and go
through the mistakes, grammatical points and in particular the
vocabulary. Please bring a small notebook so that you can note down any
new vocabulary that students learn during the trip.
Sleeping arrangements
When possible we give you an individual room however we cannot guarantee
this. If you have to share then we will try to put you in a room with
another teacher rather than with a student. You will share with someone
of the same sex.
Transport to house
We are no longer based in Madrid and so will liaise with students so
that you can travel with students. Generally you will leave at around
1800 from Plaza Castilla or Plaza Conde de Casal. If you cannot leave
Madrid before 1900 then we probably cannot offer you a position unless
you can arrange your own transport.
Freetime
None, so if you are not sociable this is not the course for you. You may
even be asked to help out in the kitchen although this may be a welcome
break from the students!!
Nationality
This is irrelevant provided you are a native English speaker.
We realise this is not well paid but please consider that you have a
weekend away with no costs. By keeping the class sizes small (and not
mixing levels) we make the course less demanding and more enjoyable for
you.
Our courses are, by far, the cheapest in Spain. Some companies do not even pay their teachers for this type of course.
As a volunteer
We may already have our teacher requirements fulfilled and so we can
only offer the possibility of being a volunteer. A volunteer comes on
the basis they do not teach in mornings but form part of the group
during the rest of the time.
If you are called into service – this means we have more levels than we
expected etc. We will pay you as above or 7Euros per hour if you only
have to teach a few classes.
You can do your own thing in the morning.
Obviously, volunteers prepared to teach are very welcome!
DVD's, games, guitar etc
Any additional material you can bring is especially welcome
Commission
If you can bring a student or simply send a student for one of our
weekend courses or indeed any course then we pay 10% commission.
Additionally we guarantee you a paid position during the stay of your
student(s).
What we need to know from you
1.What time you are available to leave Madrid on Friday afternoon.
2.Confirm you can bring your own material for the 3 groups with several
photocopies for each class. Warn us if you need a photocopier to be
available.
3.If you have your own transport – not important.
4.If you wish to be a volunteer in the case of no teaching positions being available.
5.Your general availability for future weekends and our occasional week-long courses
6.You may be interested in teaching on our summer courses in Cork,
Ireland. Attending a weekend course would be a great way to meet.
Last few comments
I am the organiser and also attend the course. I do not teach which
means there is a new shot of energy once you come out of class. It also
means there are more native speakers in the equation for non class
time. Over the years our ratio of English speakers to students has
been 1.5 students: 1 native speaker.
There is a small chance that you will obtain a private class through the
weekend. This is no problem but please do this through MovingOn
Courses. We are not interested in taking a cut. However any company
classes that arise through a weekend are strictly for MovingOn Courses.
Almost all the teachers for this year's summer course in Ireland had all
attended a weekend course. In other words the teachers enjoy the
experience.
If you want to improve your Spanish you you may wish to consider one of
our intercambio weekends. This is a weekend away with a mix of Spanish
and English speakers. 2 Spanish speakers for every English speaker.
thanks for your interest in working with MovingOn Courses.
We
are based in Spain where we have company classes from October to June
in Madrid and intensive weekend and week long courses throughout the
year (not in summer) in rural houses in places such as Avila, Cuenca and
Javea (Alicante). Every summer we run a full immersion course for
adults and one for juniors (10-17years). In 20010 the location will be
Cork, Ireland.
What type of teachers are we looking for?
Qualified
(CELTA/TEFL), reliable, punctual, enthusiastic teachers who are
friendly and easygoing. For commercial reasons we only employ native
English teachers.
Teach on one of our weekend or week-long intensive courses in Spain
Throughout the year though not in summer. Next ones in Feb 2009.
There is also the option to come along as a volunteer (teaching no classes) and enjoy the excursions and change of scene.
Location:
Various interesting places in Spain which you might be unlikely to
visit otherwise: The Gredos Mountains, Cuenca, and Javea on the Alicante
coast.
Teach on the Junior Summer Course (10-17yr olds) or the Adult Summer Course
Course dates: Junior: July 2011 Adult: July/August 20 (possibility of working 1-8 weeks with us)
Location: Cork, Ireland.
We
are looking for teachers who are able to adapt well to communal living
and use their initiative in demanding situations. It is important that
our teachers actually enjoy teaching English as they will be correcting
and helping students all day (not just in class).
Teachers
share the accommodation with the students. There are structured lessons
in the morning and an excursion/activity in the afternoon. All meals
are taken with the students. We offer students a complete English
language environment; it is English 100% of the time. The courses are
intensive but a lot of fun.
Commission for sending students
MovingOn
is a small company that doesn´t believe in large scale marketing (more
to the point we can´t afford it!!!) but we are convinced that we offer
the best value for money quality intensive course that students can
find. Most of our students hear about the course from previous students
or though our website but we value the contacts that English teachers
have so…… we offer teachers (native and non-native) a commission as an incentive to send us students.
We pay a 10% commission
Discounts are possible for groups and nationalities that aren't well represented in our courses.
For more information
Check
out the web site to see how we work. You will see that our courses are a
lot more entertaining for both you and the students.
If you are interested in any of the above working opportunities, please send an email to info - movingoncourses - dot - com which classes/courses you are interested in accompanied by a CV.
Many thanks,
The MovingOn Courses Team.
Teach company classes in Madrid
Sorry, the classes are taken but more coming
As an interested native English
teacher there are various options open to you. We prefer autonomo
teachers (self employed and paying social security tax).
